Foreign Ministry grants 900 scholarships to young Mexicans to continue studies in the US

Mexico, Dec. 14 (Notimex) .- The Deputy Minister for North America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE, for its acronym in Spanish), Paulo Carreño, led in Los Angeles, California, the delivery of IME-Scholarships to more than 900 youth and adults to continue their studies and their integration to the community where they reside.

 

The program will support community squares, including Casa Durango, Casa Guerrero and Casa Iguala, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the official met with local and national leaders who advocate for the rights of migrants in the United States, such as the group of lawyers of the Foreign Legal Advisory Program (PALE, for its acronym in Spanish), who collaborate with the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles.

Since 2015, under the program, 638 cases of Mexicans were attended in Los Angeles, while more than 5 thousand 600 cases were treated in the consular network, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The Deputy Minister and Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, Carlos Garcia de Alba also met with Arturo Vargas, executive director of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (Naleo) to discuss new ways to encourage citizen participation of the Mexican community in the American union.

Carreño King also met with the President of the California Senat, Kevin de Leon and Los Angeles Archbishop, Jose Gomez, a Monterrey native who is also Vice-President of the Episcopal Conference.

In both meetings the relevance of Latinos in the political landscape of the United States was discussed, as well as the need to work together to ensure the protection of the rights of Mexicans in that country.

The meeting also discussed Mexico's efforts to be closer to the nationals and the role of churches in guiding and protecting migrants, and agreed to continue working closely and jointly in favor of the community.
